Today, we depart early from Toowoomba to begin our 12-day Outback Explorer adventure. Our first stop will be Chinchilla, where we’ll take a break for morning tea. This is a chance to stretch our legs, enjoy a refreshment and take in the atmosphere of this Western Downs community before continuing our journey west. We then continue to Miles, where we’ll visit the local museum. The museum offers a fascinating insight into the history of Miles and the surrounding Western Downs region, including its pioneering heritage, agricultural development, early settlement and the people who helped shape the community. Following our museum visit, we’ll enjoy lunch in Miles. After lunch, we continue our journey towards Roma, enjoying the changing scenery as we travel further into Queensland’s Outback. We arrive in Roma, a historic town in the Maranoa Region, often described as the gateway to Queensland’s Outback. 

After breakfast, a local guide will join us for a guided exploration of Roma.

We’ll discover the town’s history, agricultural heritage, natural environment and evolution into one of Queensland’s important Outback communities. Our guide will share stories about the people, places and events that have shaped Roma. After our morning tour, we’ll farewell our guide and enjoy lunch. Afternoon – Station Experience After lunch, we’ll visit a local station.

Today we leave Roma and continue west towards Tambo. Mitchell Great Artesian Spa. Our journey takes us to Mitchell, a small Western Queensland town famous for its connection to the Great Artesian Basin.

We’ll stop at the Mitchell Great Artesian Spa, where there will be an opportunity to relax and enjoy a refreshing dip. Morning tea will also be provided. The Great Artesian Basin is one of Australia’s great natural features and has played an important role in the development of Outback communities.

Afternoon – Tambo We continue towards Tambo, enjoying the changing scenery as the landscape becomes increasingly characteristic of the Queensland Outback. Arrive in Tambo and settle into our accommodation. Overnight: Tambo

Today we continue our Outback journey from Tambo to Longreach.

Longreach is one of Queensland’s best-known Outback towns and is strongly associated with Australia's pioneering history, aviation heritage and legendary Outback spirit. After arriving in Longreach, we’ll check into our accommodation and have some time to relax.

Evening – Sunset Cruise This evening, we’ll enjoy a memorable sunset cruise. As the sun drops across the Outback landscape, the colours of the sky and surrounding country create a spectacular setting.

It’s the perfect way to begin our three-night stay in Longreach.

Overnight: Longreach

Today is devoted to exploring Longreach and experiencing its pioneering heritage.

We’ll enjoy the Cobb & Co experience, discovering the important role that horse-drawn coaches played in connecting remote Australian communities. Learn about the people, transport, communication and challenges faced by early settlers travelling across the Outback.

Today, we continue exploring the rich history and heritage of Longreach, with visits to two of the region’s iconic attractions.

After breakfast, we’ll visit the Qantas Founders Museum. Discover the remarkable story of Qantas and its pioneering beginnings in Outback Queensland.

We’ll explore historic aircraft, aviation displays and stories of the people who helped establish one of Australia’s most famous airlines. We’ll enjoy lunch before continuing our afternoon of exploration.

Today we leave Longreach and travel towards Toogunna Plains Farmstay.
Along the way, we’ll visit Stonehenge, enjoying the landscape and history of this small Outback community for lunch.

We then continue towards Toogunna Plains. Arriving at Toogunna Plains, we begin our special three-night Outback Farmstay.
Toogunna Plains is a fourth-generation sheep and cattle property covering approximately 130,000 acres.

Enjoy a delicious gourmet cooked breakfast. Join our hosts for a morning station tour.

Discover what life is really like on a large Australian sheep and cattle property and learn about the challenges, rewards and traditions of life on the land.

Today is our final full day at Toogunna Plains and another wonderful day of Outback experiences.
Morning – Country Cooking or Station Experience Start the morning with a wonderful country cooking demonstration with Fiona, where we’ll discover some of the traditional flavours and cooking techniques of the region.

After breakfast, we farewell our hosts Fiona and Adam and leave Toogunna Plains.
We travel towards Quilpie, where our local guide will join us for a town tour. We’ll discover the history and character of this fascinating Outback community.
Highlights include, St Finbarr’s Opal Altar, Powerhouse Museum, Quilpie museums, Art Gallery and Visitor Information Centre.

After breakfast, we’ll visit the Bilby Centre in Charleville for a fascinating wildlife experience.

We’ll learn more about the endangered bilby and the important conservation work being undertaken to protect this unique Australian native animal.

After our visit, we’ll farewell Charleville and begin our journey towards St George. Charleville to Morven - We’ll travel through the beautiful Outback landscape towards Morven, enjoying the changing scenery and taking in the vast open landscapes of Western Queensland.

Today marks the final day of our Outback Explorer adventure.

After breakfast, we begin our journey back towards Toowoomba. Thallon – Painted Grain Silos Our first major stop is Thallon, where we’ll see the impressive painted grain silos known as “The Watering Hole.”

The enormous mural celebrates the Thallon district and surrounding landscape. We continue to Goondiwindi, located on the banks of the Macintyre River.

Here we’ll stop for lunch.
